Luke 19:1-10 “Salvation comes to the house of Zacchaeus.”
Our Gospel today is one that we are all familiar with: the encounter between Jesus and Zacchaeus. Even though it is familiar to us, we are invited to approach this passage with newness. We might like to ponder where we are in this passage today. Are we one of the crowd? Or we are Zacchaeus anxious to get a look at who Jesus is?
What we see in this reading is the meeting of two desires. Zacchaeus’ desire to see Jesus and Jesus is desire for Zacchaeus. Are we aware of Jesus’s desire to be with us? How does it make us feel? Jesus does not wait for us to repent or be perfect before he approaches us; he loves us unconditionally and only wants to be with us.
Today, let us allow Jesus to approach us. And to find us wherever we are so that we can experience the joy of a personal encounter with him.
