Friday 31st of March

“When they led Him away, they seized a man, Simon of Cyrene, coming in from the country, and placed on him the cross to carry behind Jesus.”

Luke 23:24-26

What a good man Simon of Cyrene was! He saw You struggling and helped you carry your cross. You probably never met Simon before, and yet there he was in the moment you needed it the most, a stranger helped you out. Have you helped to lift the burden of sufferings for someone else?

Looking at Simon, we see how in our humanity, we are all dependent on each other, and we all need each other’s help. We need to embrace our mutual interdependence with each other. We are all together, one community. What is our attitude when we are asked to carry a cross that is not even ours in the first place? Are we only happy to carry a cross that is ours, or easy? Jesus, please give us the humility to ask for help, wash away our pride and help us rely on others. And help us see when we should reach out to carry the cross of another… as we know it will help us grow and transform, just as it did for Simon.
