“The people that lived in darkness have seen a great light.”

Matthew 4:12-17, 23-25

In today’s passage, Jesus begins his public ministry in Galilee, fulfilling Isaiah’s prophesy of light dawning on those living in darkness. His message centres on repentance, calling people to turn from sin and receive the kingdom of heaven. Jesus’ words remind us that His light transforms our lives, guiding us into truth, peace and a new beginning. Jesus, the Light of the World, enters a world of spiritual darkness, offering hope and salvation. Jesus reminds us that no matter how deep our darkness may feel, His presence brings light, clarity and hope to guide us forward.

Jesus encourages us to repent as that is a heartfelt way of turning away from sin and turning towards God. It’s not just about feeling remorse but about embracing a new way of life. Jesus’ call to repentance invites us to release what binds us and to walk in the freedom and renewal He offers. As we gather at Jesus’ feet, we can simply listen to what He may have to say to us. Or we might wish to tell Him what we need and hope for. Do we trust that Jesus will listen to us?
