Sunday 28th of May
“They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak.”
Acts 2:1-11
Today we celebrate the great feast of Pentecost, the birth of the Church and the coming of the Holy Spirit. Fifty days after Jesus’ Resurrection, Jesus sent His Spirit upon His disciples to equip them for the mission He had entrusted to them. They were now ready to proclaim the good news to the whole world boldly.
We are told that when the Spirit descended upon the disciples, they started to speak, and the people understood them in their own language; the Spirit had given them this gift. Not all of us have the gift of tongues; however, the Holy Spirit does give us the ability to connect with people of every race and language. When the Spirit is alive within us, we do not make distinctions among people. Instead, we live our lives as Jesus did, welcoming, loving, and compassionate to all.
Today we pray that the Holy Spirit may descend upon us and that we might find fullness of life in following and living with the Holy Spirit.
