Sunday 12th of April
“Eight days later, Jesus came again and stood among them.”
John 20:19–31
Today we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday, a day the Church gives us to reflect on the merciful heart of Jesus. It is this very mercy that leads Him, after His resurrection, to seek out His disciples to encourage them, support them, and bring them peace. After the resurrection, the disciples were in disarray. They remained in the upper room with the doors locked, afraid. Yet Jesus, knowing where they were, came and stood among them. He did not come with condemnation. He did not ask, “Where were you?” or “Why did you abandon me?” Instead, He greeted them with peace: “Peace be with you.” Then He showed them His hands and His side.
Today, in our prayer, we are invited to reflect on this mercy of Jesus a mercy that flows from His deep love, compassion, and kindness. This same mercy is extended to each one of us. Jesus comes to us where we are, breaking through our fears, doubts, anxieties, and insecurities, and He says again, “Peace be with you.” May we open our hearts to receive His Divine Mercy.
