Sunday 8th of March
3rd Sunday of Lent
“A spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
John 4:5-42
What a beautiful thing it is to realise that as we begin our prayer today, the Lord is already waiting for us. And not only waiting but thirsting for this encounter with us. This is what we see played out in our reading today, between Jesus and the Samaritan woman. Jesus was thirsting for an encounter with this woman, and she was thirsting as well. She was coming to draw water, but Jesus was seeking to quench the emptiness in her heart and the deeper thirst she had, a love that would fill the emptiness she had.
As we come to prayer today, are we aware of our thirst? What are we thirsting for? Are we thirsting for a love that satisfies? Let us put down our bucket, so that we can listen to Jesus and see and welcome the love and life that he offers.
