Sunday 26th of October
“They are like a tree planted by streams of water…”
Psalm 1:1–3
This week, we’ve been meditating on the importance of nurturing our eternal life through prayer and our relationship with Jesus. Today’s Psalm deepens this reflection by offering a powerful image: a tree planted beside a flowing stream. The psalmist says, “Blessed is the one who does not follow the counsel of the wicked… but delights in the law of the Lord, and meditates on His law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.”
What a beautiful image this is. When we choose to delight in our relationship with Jesus and make time to meditate on His Word, we too become like that tree, rooted, nourished, and fruitful. Our strength and security come not from ourselves, but from the living water that flows from God’s presence. We don’t have to look far for the nourishment our souls need. We simply need to turn inward to God, who dwells within us. Today, let us renew our desire to prioritise our relationship with Jesus.
