“… your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”
Colossians 3:1–4
If someone were to ask you about your life, what would you say? We might talk about our families, where we live, what we do for work, our hobbies, and so on. While all of this is good and fair, we must also remember that our lives are not limited to what exists here on earth. As St. Paul says in today’s reading, “For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” God has made it so that our lives are more than what we have on earth but they are meant to be lived with him in eternity. As Jesus dies, we too are called to die to sin, and as he lives in heaven, we are called to follow him there, and to live in communion with him.
Let us not forget this other side of life to which we are called. It is important that we pay attention to it now, nurture it, and prepare ourselves for it. Hopefully, the next time someone asks us about our life, we can also recognise the one we will share with God in heaven. Because in the end, only our life in heaven will matter, for that is the one that will last for eternity.
