Sunday 5th of October
“Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow.”
James 4: 13-15
We often assume we know what tomorrow holds, confidently making plans as if the future is guaranteed. But as St James reminds us, “You don’t even know what tomorrow will bring.” This might feel like a jolt to our comfortable routines and assumptions, but it is a timely reminder as we reflect more deeply on our theme this week. St James warns us not to place too much confidence in our own plans or abilities. Instead, he invites us to adopt a posture of humility, saying: “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
This perspective shifts the way we think and live. It calls us to recognise that life is not something we control, but a gift from God. Every step we take, every plan we make, is only possible if the Lord gives us the life, time, and strength to carry it out. Rather than living with self- assurance, we are invited to live with trustful dependence on God.
