Saint Joachim and Saint Anne, parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary
“Let them both grow til the harvest.”
Matthew 13:24-30
Today, Jesus shows us that sometimes, for us to grow in our faith, we need to have the weeds to test us and make us into who we truly are: as God’s children. The weeds grew with the wheat in the field, yet when the wheat was ready, the weeds were collected and burnt. In the same way, Jesus takes all of these weeds of uncertainty, fear, anxiety and other things that suck the life out of us, so that only the good remains.
We might already recognize the weeds in our lives, but do we realize that they can indirectly support our spiritual growth? While we may not have control over these weeds, we can trust that it is Jesus alone who will guide us in discovering the good and right way to live.
Let us remain faithful like St Anne and St Joachim, whose feast day we celebrate today. Through their faith, prayer, and perseverance, God asked them to be participants in his work of salvation by being the parents of our Blessed Virgin Mary. Saint Anne and St Joachim, pray for us.
