“ Lord, teach us to pray?”

Luke 11:1-13

Today, we get an insight into the prayer of Jesus, when the disciples ask Jesus ‘Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.’ Jesus teaches them the prayer that we refer to as “Our Father,” a prayer very familiar to us. After teaching them this prayer he goes on to share two short parables about persistence in prayer which speak to the importance of perseverance and fidelity in prayer.

As you read these verses of the gospel, what catches your attention? What do you think Jesus is saying to you personally? How do we pray? Are we persistent in prayer? Do we give up when we feel that Jesus is not answering our prayers? Do we come to prayer with a humble dependence, trusting in God’s providence and timing? Let us have the confidence to come before God today with our needs, trusting in his providence and timing.
