Feast of St James
“Such an overwhelming power comes from God and not from us.”

2 Corinthians 4:7-15

We celebrate today the feast of St James, who is the patron saint of pilgrims and of Spain. This too is a Jubilee Year where we are invited to live as “Pilgrims of Hope.” The “Camino de Santiago”, the pilgrimage named after St James, can be an arduous journey.

In our pilgrim life, we will face moments of significant challenges. Like St Paul, there will be times in our life being perplexed, persecuted and even feeling knocked down. St Paul learnt to live his pilgrimage on earth relying on the power of God. We are carrying a great treasure in vessels of clay. We will feel moments of weakness, but we are invited to live in the paradox of the Gospel: “When we are weak, we are strong.” Because the power comes from God, let us pray about how we can rely more on the power of God.
