“Moses speaks with God on Sinai.”
Exodus 19:1-2,9-11,16-20
God appointed Moses to lead the Israelites out of slavery to freedom, and ultimately, into a closer relationship with God. In their journey however, they became impatient, and grumbled so much against Moses, that they began to lose trust in him and God. In today’s reading, God allows the people to hear him speaking to Moses (but not able to see anything), in order to have their trust in Moses restored. Although God was not visible to the people, his presence was felt all around through the signs of thunder and lightning, heavy cloud and trumpet blasts.
For us, how do we encounter the presence of God in our own lives? Are there people we can look to, to increase our own faith and trust in God? And how are we called to be light for others, and allow them to encounter the presence of God through us?
