“The Lord God will be gracious to you and hear your cry.”

Isaiah 30:19-21,23-26

Read this reading slowly and allow the Word of God to speak to you personally. This reading is a poem on “God of compassion” and reminiscent of the reading of the Prodigal Son. We may go far away from God, but on our return, we will “bind up the wounds and heal our bruises.” “The Lord God will be gracious to your and hear your cry.”

The context of this reading is that the people had turned to idols. Idolatry, understood today, is when we pursue false values and false desires represented by persons, institutions, or things. Like the people of Israel, there can be times in our own lives when we lose faith and place our trust and security in other “gods.” The Season of Advent is also a time to return to God and experience the embrace of our Loving Father.
