“Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.”

Matthew 14:22-33

Peter had courage when his eyes were on Jesus, but foundered when he focused on himself and his situation. We all have some doubts inside us like Peter did. We often ask for “proof” of Jesus’ presence, Jesus’ call. In turbulent or painful times Jesus is also asking us to trust Him.  Are we willing to take the risk, step out and make that “trust walk,”

believing that Jesus will enable us to get through our difficult times?  Let us pray for the grace to trust that Jesus is always with us, especially when we need him the most!

The hand of God is a human hand. Jesus reaches out to guide, steady and support us – all the things a touch of the human hand does. When Peter took his eyes off the Lord on the water, he began to sink. Peter found Jesus’ touch when The Lord then held him close. Like Peter, we should always walk on water, putting our trust in Jesus Christ during the most frightening times of life, like at the hour of death.
