“Pull out into deeper water.”
Luke 5:1-11
In today’s reading, Jesus invites Simon to “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch”. As we pray with this passage, we may sense Jesus inviting us also to ‘put out into deep water’ in some part of our life. The exercise of prayer too requires from us a response. Simon responds, “At your command, I will lower the nets”. What is our response when Jesus invites us in prayer to go further, to pull out into deeper water? What is our response, “at your command, I will…”? How does the thought of this make us feel?
Jesus seems to sense that Simon was fearful, saying “Do not be afraid”. He speaks these words to us today. Let us not be afraid to pull out into the deeper water Jesus is inviting us into, as we trust that He will continue to be with us and help us.
