“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart.”

Ecclesiastes 3:1-13

The book of Ecclesiastes is attributed to “Qoheleth”, who may be considered today a realist who has placed his trust in God and his providence. In this particular passage, he reflects the contrasting experiences of life, which can be both positive and negative.

We are reminded that there is a time for everything. And while we may go through challenges and “little deaths” that cast a shadow over life, these experiences can be seeds for new life for us. God’s creation is beautiful because eternity is in the human heart. No matter what, we were created in God’s eternal image, and we have faith that God’s providence will never fail. However absurd and meaningless a life situation may seem, have faith that God is there. And that we are, as St Mary of the Cross said, “We are but travellers here.”
