Such an overwhelming power comes from God and not from us.”

2 Corinthians 4:7-15

In ancient times, treasures were hidden in clay pots. St. Paul compares us to these clay vessels, and the treasure we contain, despite all our human frailty, is Jesus. St Paul goes on to say that if we have any “power” in times of suffering (“hard pressed”, “ perplexed”, “persecuted,” “ struck down”), it is because it comes from God. He carried so many sufferings in his life, and he realised that it was in these “deaths” that the life of Jesus was revealed to others. This is the power of God manifested in a clay jar.

Think of the times in your life you endured suffering, were you aware that it was the power of God working in you? How did you reveal the life of Jesus to others through it all? How did your life testify to the power of God in your life?
