Friday 30th of May
“Your hearts will be full of joy that no one will take from you.”
John 16:20-23
When Jesus was with his disciples, he never hid from them. He told them that the Christian life would have suffering, sorrows and crosses, but also joy. The disciples, too, would experience a time when Jesus would physically leave them, but they would never be alone because he would send the Spirit. As Christians, Jesus invites us to hold firm to the promise of hope and joy he offers us. There are many difficult situations in life: illness, financial struggles, relationship breakdowns, and work stress, but when we go through these trials, let us not lose sight of the promise of Jesus, that he is with us and gives us the strength we need each day.
Today, let us turn to Jesus, share our struggles, open our hearts to him, and allow him to draw near, and say: do not be afraid, I am here, I am with you, you do not walk alone. Let us allow Jesus’ presence to fill us; we can have hope and joy even in sorrow, thus becoming a sign of hope for others.
