“You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn to joy.”

John 16:16-20

Amidst the disciples’ confusion, Jesus knew what they were thinking and spoke to them. He loved his disciples so much that he wanted to prepare them as much as possible for his approaching suffering and death on the cross. He tells them that in a while they will no longer see him, but later they will see him again. Jesus’ words give hope, reminding them that grief will not last forever. His words are for us too, and we know he always fulfils his promises. Whatever sorrows we face, Jesus will redeem, and one day turn to joy. In John’s account in Revelation, he writes that God makes all things new. He will wipe every tear away, there will be no more death or mourning, and no more pain. Joy awaits us, too. Today, let us spend time with the risen Jesus, who is already with us, and offers us hope and joy in Him.
