“You place your hopes on Moses but Moses will be your accuser.”

John 5:31-47

The biblical rule of evidence required two witnesses. In the face of persecution by many Jews, Jesus points to John the Baptist and the works the Father did through Jesus as evidence that he is the son of God. He also points to the scriptures, yet many people were closed off to the idea that Jesus was the fulfilment of the scriptures. “You do not want to come to me to have life”.

Do we come to Jesus to have life? Do we seek him as we read and pray with the word of God? Am I longing for this connection with Him, or is my heart far away? In this Jubilee year, we are reminded that God alone is our hope, and he wants all of us. Let us pray for the grace of deeper prayer that gives us life as we encounter Him who is our hope.
