Sunday 11th of August
“Forgive each other as readily as God forgave you.”
Ephesians 4:30-5:2
Today, we are invited to reflect on the kind of relationship we have with others. St Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians, encourages his community to treat others with forgiveness, mercy and kindness, which implies, “Never have grudges against others, or lose your temper, or raise your voice to anybody, or call each other names, or allow any sort of spitefulness.” Are there people in our lives that Jesus asks us to forgive? What holds us back? Are we quick to lose our temper with others?
St Paul encourages us to follow the example of Jesus in loving others as we have been loved. Even if others have failed to love us or show us kindness, we can, in turn, show kindness, forgiveness, and mercy. We can rise above our hurt feelings and choose the path of love towards our brothers and sisters.
