“God loves a cheerful giver.”
2 Corinthians 9:6-10
St. Paul calls on us to be generous with our brothers and sisters, for “God loves a cheerful giver.” When we give to others, it often implies sacrifice on our end, but it is a sacrifice worth taking. Not only does it give us joy and happiness, but we also make a difference in someone else’s life. What act of generosity is God asking us to make? It may be giving gifts instead of indulging in purchasing things for ourselves, spending quality time with our loved ones despite our busy schedules, helping someone with a task or giving time to a friend who is unwell.
When we give, we are to give freely and willingly rather than grudgingly or out of obligation. Do not give to tick a box or expect something in return. God is the one who will repay us for our generosity; he knows what we need.
Therefore, when we give, let us give with all our heart, mind, and soul so that we may receive the joy and blessings of the Father. As St Francis of Assisi says, “It is in giving that we receive.”
