“The wise man built his house on a rock.”
Matthew 7:21-29
Today’s reading invites us to reflect on the question: what am I really building my life on? The parable compares the wise man who built his house on rock with the foolish man who built his house on sand. As Christians we know that God alone is a secure and solid foundation for our life. Yet how often do we actually pause to look at our life and see if it is really built on the rock? We may not even notice that we’ve been building parts on sand, until we are challenged and our foundation is shaken.
As we pray with this reading today, let us ask Jesus to show us what parts of our life we still need to build on him, the rock. As it says in Isaiah, ‘Though the mountains leave their place and the hills be shaken, my love shall never leave you’. This love is the solid rock for our life.
