“If you want to, you can cure me.”

Matthew 8:1-4

We all have things in our life that we wish were not part of us: arthritis, sin, stress, loss, fear, anxiety. But we may not always bring our complaints, concerns or needs to Jesus. We might not want to bother him, or maybe we think he can’t heal us. The leper in today’s gospel was in obvious need of being cured. He approached Jesus with bold faith and said, ‘If you want, you can cure me.’ What confidence and faith the leper had in Jesus!

Let us approach Jesus today with this same boldness, trust and faith, repeating the exact words, ‘If you want, you can cure me.’ Let us put aside our doubts and fears to pay attention to Jesus’ response, ‘Of course; I want to be cured.’ What is it that we would like Jesus to do for us?
