“’Your faith has restored you to health’

Matthew 9:18-26

The gospel today speaks to us about the healing and restorative mission of Jesus and the role of faith in those healings through the intertwining of two healing encounters. First, we have an official coming forward to Jesus and bowing low, asking for help for his daughter who has just died. And then a woman who had been bleeding for 12 years needs healing. Both showed exceptional faith in Jesus. The official says to Jesus “my child is dead “but come and lay your hand on her and her life will be saved.” And the woman says, “If I can only touch his cloak, I shall be well again. Rather than looking at what seems humanly impossible, they both reach out to Jesus in faith.

When we come to Jesus asking for healing, either for ourselves or someone else, what is our attitude and disposition? Do we approach Jesus with humility? Do we reach out, making an act of faith, “Lord, I believe that you can…“ Today, let us reach out to Jesus in faith, making an act of faith:, Lord, I believe that nothing is impossible for you. If it is according to your will, please grant this healing.
