“Owe no one anything, except to love each other…”
Romans 13:8-10
Today, we are reminded of the commandment to love others. St Paul reminds us that the only thing that we owe to another is to love them. We have not been given the authority to judge or condemn, only to love. Perhaps at times, we might feel that others owe us something for the love we show them; however, if we feel like this, we must question the reason for our love.
When we love with a spirit of generosity and openness, we can move out of ourselves to see and respond to the needs of others. St Paul also reminds us that when we love authentically, we do no harm to others.
In this time of Lent, let us not get tired of practising love for our neighbour, knowing that Jesus is with us and giving us the strength to love our brothers and sisters.
