Sunday 29th of March
Palm Sunday
Christ humbled himself, but God raised him high.”
Philippians 2:6-11
As we enter into Holy Week, we are invited to look at Jesus and learn from him. Jesus, our master, has given us a model to follow through his own life. He was divine and the Son of God, but he emptied himself, taking on human form and nature to be one like us in all things but sin. Yet St Paul reminds us today that, in his humility, Jesus goes one step further and accepts God’s plan to lay down his life for us on the cross.
This is the humanity we are invited to follow. As followers and disciples of Jesus, we too are called to a life of humility, assuming the crosses and difficulties and suffering that come to us, while also giving our lives for others. We can ask Jesus, Lord, how are you calling me today to assume and accept my cross? Who is it that you are calling me to lay down my life for today?
As we journey through Holy Week together as a community of faith, may we draw near to Jesus and accompany him on this way to the cross, so that we might also share in his resurrection.
