Sunday 4th of January
The Epiphany
“The visit of the Magi”
Matthew 2:1-12
Today we celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord and are invited to reflect on the disposition of our hearts, what we are truly seeking and longing for. The Lord has come to dwell among us, to heal, restore, and give us life. But are we seeking Him with our whole hearts?
The Magi teach us the attitudes needed to follow the star and encounter Jesus. When they saw the star that signalled the Saviour’s birth, they made a conscious decision to set out. They prepared for their encounter, brought gifts, and journeyed with focus, generosity, and selflessness to where He was.
Today, the Lord invites us to adopt these same attitudes so that we, too, may follow the star that leads us to Jesus. This week, we can do this in simple, concrete ways by setting aside time for prayer, choosing generosity over comfort, and remaining attentive to the quiet ways God is guiding us each day.
