Sunday 3rd of Aug

“Fool! This very night your soul will be demanded of you.”

Luke 12:13-21

Our gospel today invites us to reflect on where our treasures or richness lie. As you read this passage, what parts speak to you? How do we feel as we read the parable? Is there any part of us identifying with the rich man in this parable? Are we mistakenly storing up treasures here on earth, forgetting that we are only passing through this life and that Jesus, and living out the gospel, is our greatest richness?

When our eyes are firmly fixed on Jesus, earthly treasures and riches become less important to us. We can let go and share what we have with others rather than storing it. What treasures are we storing up for later? For example: money, resources, personal gifts, talents, intelligence, time. At the end of our lives, all that we take with us is the love that we have given. So let us ask Jesus for the grace to strive to make ourselves “rich in the sight of God.”
