“The parable of the sower.”
Luke 8:4-15
In today’s reading about the parable of the sower, it is important for us to recognise the condition of the soil in our hearts. However, it is equally important to reflect on what we should do about it. If we are like the path where the seed is trampled, how can we protect the word of God from being taken away from us? Can we guard ourselves against negative influences and avoid participating in things that contradict our faith?
If we are like the rocky ground, how can we allow the roots of our faith to grow deeper into the soil? Perhaps we can do this through prayer and by learning more about God. If we have “thorns”, such as worries at home and at work, or have become complacent because of our comforts, can we try to put God first so that nothing distracts us from him? And finally, if we are like the good soil, how can we continue to care for it? Lord Jesus, help us cultivate the soil of our hearts so that we may receive your word and allow it to bear fruit in our lives.
