“Come to me all you who are weary”
Matthew 11: 28-30
There are many types of rest; physical, mental, sensory, emotional. Today, we are invited to spiritual rest with Jesus. Spiritual rest, through personal or meditative prayer, confession, or spending time reading scripture, refreshes our soul and expands our capacity to give ourselves in service of the Lord and others.
In his own life, Jesus would often go to secluded places to rest, recharge, pray and just be with his Father. We cannot ignore our need for rest. God knows we need it, which is why he gave us the sabbath. We also need moments of rest throughout our day, free from to-do lists, screens, and constant noise. Do I carve out moments for rest, or do I operate on autopilot most of the time? How is Jesus inviting me to slow down, and what is he asking me to let go of today?
