“We have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.”

2 Corinthians 5:1-10

Today’s reading describes eternal life as a transition from an earthly, temporary “tent” (our body) to an eternal, heavenly “building” prepared by God. Our inheritance as sons and daughters of God is to be “clothed” in a new, immortal body, to share in the life God has prepared for us. However, while living in the world, we experience the frailty of this life, and are invited to walk by faith and hope in the eternal life, which begins now.

Do I live as though my eternal house is in heaven, or am I consumed by what is only temporary and passing away? How do I experience and live this longing for eternal life and to be fully “at home with the Lord”? Today, let us pray that we may live with our eternal house in mind, and live to please God in all that we say and do.
