“’Take nothing with you’
Mark 6:7-13
In today’s reading, Jesus instructs the disciples for mission. As followers of Jesus, we too have a mission, and are invited to share our faith with others, and not to keep it for ourselves. He sends them out two by two, as an example that we are not meant to do mission on our own, but with others, in community, and united to Jesus. Apart from him, we can do nothing, and two are better than one (Ecc 4:9). He does not guarantee that our mission will be easy, and there will always be some people who are unwelcoming or do not listen. But others will, and need to hear the testimony of our faith. Let us know become paralysed by fear of rejection, but instead move forward in confidence and hope that what Jesus asks of us, he will equip us with the grace to carry it out.
