Our Lady of Sorrows
You together are Christ’s body: each of you a different part.”
1 Corinthians 12:12-14,27-31 “
St. Paul reminds us today that we are part of something greater than ourselves. We are a part of the Body of Christ. The Church is Christ’s body, and the Christians are the members or parts of this body, and Christ is the head of the Body. We need to move away from this individualistic mindset that whatever “I” think, do or live in privacy affects no one but me. This is not true. We are intrinsically attached to one another, and each part is important. As insignificant as we may feel at times, we still have a part to play in the body. This is not true. Each one has his own spiritual gifts and function.
St. Paul mentions the gifts; he encourages us to set our hearts on the most precious gift: LOVE. Love is what gives LIFE to the Body of Christ. Today, let us reflect on this belonging to the Body of Christ and ask ourselves what kind of member we are in his body. Are we life-giving? How closely united are we to Jesus, the head? How are we allowing the life of God to flow through us to others?
