“Anna speaks of the child to all who looked forward to the deliverance of Jerusalem.”

Luke 2:36-40

Anna spent years in the temple worshipping God, fasting and praying. She was able to recognise Jesus as soon as she saw him and she went to meet Him. Then she as open to Jesus and to the Good News that He had come to save His people. Anna, like Simeon, must have thanked God for the privilege of seeing the Promised Messiah before she died.

Are we ready to recognise Jesus in our lives? Our prayer can help us to see how God is working in us and around us every day. We can learn to see Jesus in people and in the sacraments. We can reflect on a time when we saw Jesus through our prayer, or the Word of God or in a person and reached out and took action. When we recognise Jesus and respond to His invitation to get to know Him, we will have an experience of faith that we can share, as Anna did. Jesus, thank you for the opportunity to recognise Your coming at Christmas. Please help us to share the joy of Your salvation with others as Anna did.
