“Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.”

Mark 8: 14-21

What is the fruit of Jesus? When the Apostles only had five loaves, He fed five thousand people and they still had twelve baskets of food left over. Jesus not only provided, but He also gave abundantly with extra to spare. On the other hand, the Pharisees were self-righteous and were only worried about themselves. They ignored the teachings of the Prophets and their hearts were hardened. They did not use their eyes, ears and memories to be aware of how God was working and what He wanted them to do.

Jesus warns us to be on our guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod. We don’t want Jesus to call us vipers and hypocrites as He called the Pharisees. Instead, we want Jesus to see the fruit that we have produced in our lives and to welcome us into Heaven as His good and faithful servants on our judgement day. Jesus, please help us to use our eyes, ears and minds to be aware of when You are producing fruit around us. Give us the grace to be disciples in your mission of salvation, not obstacles to Your work.
