“A peace the world cannot give is my gift to you.”

John 14:27- 31

The most common phrase that Jesus said was “Peace be with you”. If people 2,000 years ago needed peace, how much more do people today need it? We hear and see how many of our brothers and sisters suffer from anxiety, stress and depression. What peace does the world offer us? We are told to look forward to a holiday lying on a beach. Earthly wisdom is that we should seek our security in home ownership and superannuation.

But Jesus offers us the gift of a peace that the world cannot give. Now, more than at any other time, people need to hear the Good News of Jesus, “Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” Jesus offers us the perfect peace of His eternal kingdom, and He asks us to pray that God’s kingdom comes now, not only when we die. Jesus, please help us to believe and live out your message of peace and trust, so that those around us can experience it and receive your gift.
