Sunday 25th August
“Who shall we go to? You are the Holy One of God.”
John 6:60-69
Perhaps at times in our lives, we can relate to Jesus’ followers in this passage, who felt his language about being the “Bread of Life” was intolerable. They could not accept it, and many walked away. For us, it could be a different message we struggle with, such as the teaching to love our enemies, forgive, turn the other cheek, and practice self-denial. Whatever it is, let us talk to Jesus about it today. And if we struggle with something in Jesus’ teaching, let us ask him for help.
In our following of Jesus, we cannot sit on the fence and choose which part of his teaching we want to follow and commit to and which part we will leave to the side. As missionary disciples of Jesus, we must embrace all of Jesus’ teachings, even those that challenge us to change.
Like Peter, let us ask Jesus for the grace and faith to declare, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of everlasting life.”
