“The world hated me before it hated you.”
John 15:18-21
It is reassuring to know what we face in the world – injustice, rejection and abandonment, betrayal, hardship and loss, unhealthy relationships, desires or addictions, power and prestige – that Jesus did too. We can become a victim of what the world puts on us with the difficult situations and circumstances that we find ourselves in. Yet Jesus reminds us that we do not belong to the world but that we belong to God. Despite the difficulties, instead hold onto his word that remains strong and constant in our lives and relieves us from the pressures and expectations of this world.
Do we realise that we belong to the Father, not of this world? How much more hopeful and joyful we can be, knowing that we belong to the Father that has genuine and unconditional love for us, not wanting for more, more, more, of power and possessions, but wanting us to see that we are good enough for him, living to love and serve others.
