The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

“My mother and my brothers are anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven.”

Matthew 12: 46-50

Today, celebrate the Memorial of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Temple, which remembers the day on which Mary, while still a child, was brought to the temple in Jerusalem to be offered to God. This event is not recorded in the Gospels, but the Church wants to emphasize the total gift that Mary made of herself, by listening: “Blessed are those who hear the Word of God and observe it”. The celebration of this feast dates back to the 6th century in the East with the dedication of the Basilica of Saint Mary the New in Jerusalem.

Jesus was honouring Mary His mother above all others because she followed His Father’s will perfectly. We also have the opportunity to become part of Jesus’s family by imitating Mary, our mother in faith. We are not related to Him by blood but by love. Thank you Jesus, for giving us the choice to become your brothers and sisters by following You in putting our Father’s will into practice.
