“Destroy this sanctuary and in three days I will raise it up.”
In today’s reading, Jesus enters the temple and is shocked and angered by what he finds there. Instead of being a place to honor and worship the Lord, it had become a marketplace. As we come to prayer today, what is the state of our own temple where God dwells? For we know that our bodies are a temple of the holy Spirit within us (1 Cor. 6:19). What does Jesus find there? How does he wish to restore us?
The temple was one of the most sacred religious sites for Jesus and the Jewish people. By comparing his himself to the temple and declaring that he was greater was an insult to the Jews. But Jesus comes to restore the true meaning of worship. Today, let us ask Jesus to restore our own hearts so they may be a suitable dwelling place for him.
