“The Good Samaritan”

Luke 10:25-37

The lawyer’s question to Jesus in the gospel today is perhaps a question that we ourselves have asked Jesus many times before, Lord, what must I do to gain eternal life? Our Society places so much emphasis on what we have to do or what we have to achieve to be successful, promoted or win! However, rather than putting so much emphasis on doing, perhaps Jesus, through this parable, is inviting us to focus more on being. Living our lives in a certain way, as taught by Jesus. And that way is the way of love, love for all, rather than doing love, we are to be love.

This Good Samaritan demonstrates to us a spontaneous, generous and compassionate gesture towards a fellow human being, that could only come from “being love”. Let us ask Jesus today for the grace to be like this Good Samaritan by ridding ourselves of the ways of the world, worldly standards, and in doing so, we not only give hope to others, but also gain eternal life.
