Tuesday 7th of April
“’I have seen the Lord and he has spoken to me.”
John 20:11-18
As we continue through the Octave of Easter, we are invited to step into the shoes of Mary Magdalene, who was gripped by deep grief, loss, and confusion not only because of the violent death of Jesus, but also at the sight of the empty tomb. These are feelings we can easily recognise in our own lives. How many times do we experience waves of grief, loss, confusion, or doubt moments when the Lord can seem distant from us? Yet we find a way through these moments when we do as Mary did: remain at the tomb. It may seem counterintuitive, but it is there that she encounters the Lord and recognises Him when He calls her by name.
Often, we run away to distract ourselves or look for ways to escape when strong emotions arise. But the invitation is to remain, especially in prayer, trusting that the Lord will meet us there. He will reveal His risen presence to us, a presence that reminds us that no matter how dark, painful, or overwhelming things may seem, He has overcome everything. And He walks with us toward resurrection, hope, and peace.
