Mary, Martha and Lazarus

“I am the resurrection and the life.“

John 11:19-27

Lazarus had just died, so his sisters Martha and Mary were deep in grief. Jesus came in person to be with them and to comfort them. Then He shared the hope of eternal life. “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” Jesus gives us eternal life to live in His kingdom of heaven on earth now. We don’t have to wait until we die to have a relationship with Him.

What is our experience of grief? We may have lost a loved one or experienced significant health issues ourselves or with someone close to us. How have we comforted others or been comforted in our hard times? We can reflect on how our faith in Jesus and His promise of eternal life helped us and others in their grief. Jesus, please give us the faith and hope to believe that You are the resurrection and the life. Then we will have this living hope to share with others who are in crisis.
