Sunday 3rd of May

“I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.”

John 14:1-12

Today, Jesus reveals himself as “the way, the truth, and the life” to his disciples, who are deeply distressed at the thought of his approaching death and increasingly aware of the growing hostility between Jesus and the authorities, between light and darkness. In this moment, Jesus says to them, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.” It raises a question for us: what do we do in moments of trouble? Do we turn to God with trust, or are we overcome and consumed by fear and distress?

Jesus goes on to tell his disciples that in his Father’s house there are many rooms, and that he is going ahead to prepare a place for them. It is by following Jesus, “the way, the truth, and the life”, that they will reach their ultimate goal: union and communion with God. And so, it is for us, it is when we follow Jesus, making his way our own, that we too will experience intimate union with God. At this present time, who are we following?
