Sunday 7th of December

2nd Sunday of Advent

“Everything written long ago was written to teach you…”

Romans 15:4-9

In this season of Advent, Paul reminds us that hope is not wishful thinking but a gift strengthened by Scripture and sustained by God Himself. “Whatever was written in former days,” Paul says, was given so that we might have endurance and encouragement. Advent invites us to return to those promises spoken long before Christ’s birth and to let them awaken hope within us again.

Our reading today also invites us to turn our gaze to the God “who gives endurance and encouragement,” praying that we might live in harmony with one another. Advent is not only a season of personal preparation; it is a time to heal divisions, reconcile relationships, and rediscover unity in Christ. When we welcome one another as Christ has welcomed us, we become signs of His coming kingdom.

As we wait for the Lord, may the Word of God renew our hope, and may Christ help us to create unity with those around us.
