Sunday 9th of February
“They left everything and followed him.”
Luke 5:1-11
Today, in the gospel, we are presented with the call of the first disciples, who were not very interested in Jesus or his message from the outset. However, their indifference did not deter Jesus from going to their encounter. Where do we find ourselves in this scene today? Are we enthusiastically listening to Jesus’ words, or are we caught up with our nets at the shore?
Jesus knew Simon was not going to go to his encounter, so Jesus went to Simon, got into his boat, and began to talk and share. Today, Jesus comes to seek us out. We might be at home, at work, or out with friends. But Jesus gets us to our boat and asks us to pull away from the shore. We might ask Jesus, Lord, what do you want me to pull away from so that I can be free to listen and follow you?
