Friday 1st of May
“A prophet is only despised in his own country.“
Matthew 13:54-58
How do people react when we share God’s wisdom with them? God’s word may speak to us through our prayer or through guidelines that we receive and we may want to help people through the teaching. But we may find that our friends and acquaintances are more open to receiving the Good News from us than people who have known us all our lives are.
Jesus went to his home town and shared wise teachings and miracles. But instead of the people praising God, they said, “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary?” Then they took offense at him. Familiarity breeds contempt. People who have known us all of our lives know our faults, and they may not accept that we have changed or that God can work through us. Jesus did not do many miracles in his hometown because of their lack of faith. Jesus, please give us your patience in doing God’s work and sharing your teaching when we are rejected. Help us to imitate you and to keep sharing the Good News and to trust that it will bear good fruit.
