Friday 3rd of April

Good Friday

“The Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

John 18:1-19:42

Jesus knew what he was facing in his Passion and death, and he could have avoided it. Instead, he followed his Fathers’ will to the end. Jesus took the opposite way to Peter. He faced his enemies and their weapons and directly asked them twice, “Whom are you looking for?” They answered, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus replied, “I am he.” He accepted his identity and drank the cup that his Father gave to him. Peter was also challenged, but he denied Jesus and that he was one of his disciples.

How do we react when our faith is challenged? Do we rely on our Father as Jesus did and face opposition with quiet confidence? Or do we avoid standing with Jesus and try to fit in with the crowd instead, like Peter? We have the opportunity on Good Friday to choose to stay with Jesus. Jesus, please give us the courage to face the suffering of your Passion with you and to face our own challenges of faith with humility and with faith in our Father.
